Sensing success: A review of Sensing Technology 2011

The second running of the Sensing Technology exhibition took place in September at the NEC, Birmingham and was hailed a major success by visitors and exhibitors alike. Building on the experience gained from the 2010 show, it once again provided a high quality of visitor enabling the exhibitors to discuss new projects and innovations on their stands and in many cases take orders at the show.

This is what some of the exhibitors had to say about this year's exhibition

“This year's Sensing Technology event presented our client base with an invaluable opportunity for dialogue and collaboration with other suppliers, prospective customers and their associated reseller and distribution channels. The co-located MEMS event at the NEC was also highly synergistic to client business development objectives. We look forward to continued participation across our client base in your team's exhibition and publication products.”

Molly Bakewell Chamberlin, CEO, Embassy Global, LLC

“Strainstall would like to express its thanks to the Sensing Technology organisers. We felt there was a good level of quality visitors this year and we look forward to next year where the visitor volumes will significantly increase. Several good leads were established during the exhibition and we believe such events are important to the niche sensor Industry.”

“Sensing Technology 2011 was, for Bronkhorst, a very definite success. Yes, it was a little odd being so far removed from the other halls, but at least those visitors who made the trek very definitely wanted to be there! As a result, we found that most of the visitors had very specific requirements for very specific ‘live’ applications, thereby producing quite lengthy, detailed discussions on the booth. From my own discussions I think the visitors were very happy too. In fact we received our first order only two days after the event.

“I would say that the event was quietly focused with knowledgeable visitors having a very clear purpose. Following discussions with the organisers about the next event, I was delighted to hear about further enhancements and I can categorically say that Bronkhorst will be there in 2012.”

Andy Mangell, managing director, Bronkhorst

“Exhibitions are a vital part of the marketing mix for a company on the cutting edge of technology, and the Sensing Technology show did not disappoint in the audience it delivered to us.

“There are always new potential customers entering our market who need to get up to speed on the options for torque sensors, a walk around an exhibition floor is often the most efficient way for them to see and compare all the suppliers. We are naturally at an advantage because our technology is unique in that it does not use clumsy strain gauges, but a rather elegant non-contact solution based on Surface Acoustic Waves. Our stand visitors have either sought us out because they like our technology or ‘discover’ it with us.

“The Show provided us with some very good leads that we are following up now. They were quite a mix, from industry and academia, big organisations and small, immediate and long term. This is what we look for in a show - breadth of visitors from as many different sectors as possible.”

Tony Ingham, marketing manager, Sensor Technology
